Introduction
In 2025, I started pursing how to create my own renderering engine. I aquired educational resources but I found that almost all of them recommended a background in:
GPU hardware
DirectX 11
Advanced C++
And being very comfortable with math.
I had no knowledge of DX11, Vulkan, OpenGL, or Metal. I had very very little knowledge of GPU hardware. I was comfortable with C++ but I wouldn't say I was advanced. And while I had a comfortable knowledge of math, my use of it was rusty.
But I really wanted to learn graphics programming. I wanted to go deeper than just creating shaders. I wanted to understand the most minute detail that had previously been abstracted away by game engines. So this is how I've gone about learning graphics programming, as someone who probably should have had more knowledge of other areas before starting but didn't have the time to do so.
Takeaway
A delusional amount of determination can get you pretty far.
